Reflexology is a popular and relaxing treatment based on the idea that your feet can be seen as a 'map' to the whole body.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a school of complementary treatments that bases it's theory on the reflection of the human body through the foot, face or hand. Our Reflexologists in Winchester offer foot and facial reflexology.
Therapists use a specialised foot massage to clear blockages in energy flow to treat illness and relieve tension. Reflexology promotes relaxation, reduces pain, improves circulation and soothes tired feet. Our Reflexologists in Winchester are all highly experienced.
What can it treat?
- Back pain
- Digestive disorders, eg. IBS, Constipation
- Hormonal imbalances
- Poor circulation
- Pre-Menstrual Syndrome
- Stress related conditions
How does it work?
Reflex points on the face, hand or foot link to specific organs, glands and other areas. For example the tips of the toes correspond to the head. By applying pressure to these reflex points, health can be promoted in the corresponding organs. A scientific explanation is that this pressure sends signals that balance the nervous system or by releasing endorphines so reducing stress and pain.
What will my session involve?
During your initial consultation, details will be taken of your medical history, lifestyle and diet. The treatment then begins, which usually lasts 45 minutes.
For feet treatments you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and either sit or lay on a massage table. You remain fully clothed. The therapist will then stimulate various points on the foot to identify problem areas to work on.
Precaution: If you have foot ulcers, injury or blood vessel disease such as blood clots, please consult your doctor before this treatment.
