FAQS:
What is a Derma Roller?A Derma Roller is a medical roller device that contains 192 micro needles of surgical stainless steel. The device is rolled over the skin causing minute micro punctures in the skin surface. This action The sharper the needle (and therefore the better quality) the less painful the treatment. All our rollers are high grade registered medical devices (most skin needling devices do not carry this assurance).
What will happen during a Derma Roller treatment?
A consultation will be given before any treatment to assess your needs and ensure that this is the right treatment for you. Derma Roller facial treatments typically take 30 minutes for the face, whilst other areas of the body make take longer, depending on the area to be covered. Your face will first be cleansed and then massaged with our unique Anti-Aging serum. This serum is a base of Green Tea Oil with a blend of organic, non-chemical, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. This serum increases elastin in the skin and can be used on ALL skin types. Your face will then be rollered using the device to penetrate the epidermis. The epidermis is not removed, only pierced, and will heal within hours. Collagen is then produced over a period of 5-7 days. Because the pores of the skin are opened during a treatment, the topical application of our anti-aging serum is increased 10,000 times. It is for this reason that we only use organic, natural serums during this crucial stage of treatment. The serum we use has been used for centuries on the skin in China, and treats wrinkles, fine lines, dry skin and for preventing age spots and freckles.
When will I notice positive effects?
Effects are noticed almost immediately although we recommend a course of treatments to maximise effects. Unlike other more aggressive forms of skin needling, we specialise in techniques that require no 'downtime' healing period – the skin heals within a matter of hours and so treatments can be repeated on a weekly basis, . For hair loss, scarring, acne scarring, cellulite and stretchmarks the effects take longer to see and there is a greater gap in between treatments to allow your body to heal and re-generate collagen and elastin. Treatments are usually 2 weeks apart over a period of anything from 3 –12 months depending on the severity of the case.
How long do the effects last?
The skin rejuvenation effects are permanent! Top up treatments are recommended to treat new lines and wrinkles that will occur as you age. .
Can this treatment work for cellulite, scars and stretch marks?
Yes- dermal rolling combined with our unique stretch mark and cellulite serum is very effective. This serum contains a blend of Chinese herbs specifically formulated to treat stretch marks and cellulite. Treatments are carried out every two weeks with a total of 6 treatments, and at the end of the course you will be given roller and serum to carry out further less intensive treatments at home for a period of approximately 3 months. Top up intensive clinic treatments are recommended, particularly in severe cases. Please see below a list of the types of scar we can treat:
Surgical abdominal scars (appendectomy, Caesarean section, abdominoplasty etc)

Breast plastic operation scars (breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast reconstruction scars)

Ice pick scars/acne scars
Appendectomy scars

Hair Transplantation scars (strip procedure scars, scalp reduction or scalp extension scars)I have heard Derma Rolling can help with hair loss – is this right?
This is indeed correct – hair restoration can be achieved using our unique combination of derma rolling and our Hair Restoration Spray. This is a unique blend of traditional Chinese herbs in an organic base and is based on a traditional recipe which has been used with skin needling to prevent hair loss for 100's of years. This is a traditional safe alternative to modern products that give devastating side effects such as high blood pressure, impotence and prostate cancer. Restoring hair loss can take between 3-6 months, although new hair follicles can be seen within 6 weeks. We recommend 10 treatments, every two weeks and you will be given the hair restoration spray to use in between visits. In severe cases you will be given a roller to use at home in between visits. Hair restoration is an on-going issue and clients are advised to continue treatments at home, with top-up, more intensive treatments in clinic from time to time.
Is my practitioner insured?
Yes. All practitioners are fully trained to use medical devices and have the relevant training, experience and insurance. Rest assured you will be in safe hands.
SPECIAL INFORMATION FOR ACNE CLIENTS:
This treatment is ideal for clients that have finished taking their medication (antibiotics, roaccutane, dianne 35, contraceptive pill) and want to prevent the acne from returning again. Treatment may begin as soon as their skin has cleared – it is ok to treat if they are still taking medication but they must NOT be using topical creams. Advice is to stop using acne preparations and cleansers as these products dry out sebaceous glands and don't solve the problem. These products can also cause the clients to have premature wrinkles because the oil is dried out of the skin. From a Chinese Medical viewpoint acne occurs because of internal dryness. The skin will clear up much more quickly by using a derma roller and serum which will penetrate the skin much more deeply than by using topically.
Thin Skin and Dull Complexions/Uneven skin tones:
Can be treating by using the Anti-aging treatment protocols as listed above.BOTOXED SKIN:
Botoxed skin can be treated 2-4 weeks after injection. By the time the Botox wears off, changes should be visible.
History of Traditional Micro Needling, Jade Roller, Guasha and Cosmetic Acupuncture in China
The first use of Skin Needling for cosmetic purposes was part of the system of Chinese Medicine. References indicate that this use has most probably existed for thousands of years – these techniques date back 2000-5000 years. These techniques were often combined with Chinese herbal topical medicine, and internal medicines. These treatments have been tested on humans for thousands of years and are still popular today in modern China. Many acupuncture channels converge at the face and can be treated there to benefit the internal organs of the body – the Chinese believe that by circulating energy and blood with acupressure, skin needling and other techniques, it benefits internal organs which will result in a youthful appearance on the skin.
The development of Skin Needling in the Western world is a more recent phenomenon.
COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY –HOW IT WORKS:
The skin needling roller penetrates through the epidermis, but does not remove it, so healing takes place within a few hours. Skin needling rollers 0.5mm in length are long enough to rupture skin capillaries and allow blood and serum to enter the surrounding tissue. This results in the formation of tiny clots and an increase in the number of fibroblasts in the area. The platelets that cause the clotting release chemotactic factors such as Platelet Derived Growth Factor, Transforming Growth Factor and Fibroblast Growth Factor, which increase the number of other platelets, leucocytes and fibroblasts. Neutrophils then become active in the area to remove the damaged collagen and small clots. This leads automatically to the fibroblasts producing more collagen and more elastin. In just a few hours the keratinocytes have migrated into the area and joined together to produce all the components necessary to re-establish the basement membrane with laminin and collagen types IV and VII. Just two days after the injury, keratinocytes start to proliferate and thicken the epidermis. Fibroblasts also migrate into the area at this time and produce collagen types I and III, proteoglycans, elastin and other matrixproteins. Collagen type III is the dominant form of collagen in the early wound healing phase and becomes maximal 5-7 days after injury. By day 5 after injury, the fibronectin matrix is laid down along the axis in which fibroblasts and collagen are aligned and laid down. Over a period of 6-12 months, Collagen type III is gradually replaced by Collagen type 1. This type of Collagen gives increased tensile strength. The tightening of the skin is progressive over the next few months as the Collagen slowly shortens.
